How to Get a Natural Nose Job

“Hidung mancung!” the doctor said. When we did the 3d scan of the new baby, that was one similar thing that Bettunia’s doctor said about herself too. Ok alhamdulillah that’s Mama’s little daughter/son then. Abah can try his luck on the third baby who’s not going to happen anytime soon. Hehe.

I looked at myself in the mirror this morning as I was checking for blackheads. Would it have been possible the fact that my highly esteemed and distinguished nose is like what it is today, according to my husband I have big/long nose (bukanlah mancung pun! it’s more like unproportionately panjang), was because arwah Wan used to pinch it? She used to do that on regular basis as if I paid her for sessions of nose lifting treatment. She said “Picit-picit hidung ni bagi mancung. Baru nampak elok”. It actually happened when I least expected it because of course, otherwise I would’ve run away and saved my life. It can hurt sometimes.

Maybe that sometimes, she did it out of shear geram or punishment because I can be quite naughty at times. I was just a kid.

Anyway, I can’t help but being a Malaysian Malay. If I was supposed to have hidung penyet, then be it. I’m also proud of my brown coloured skin. It’s not me, it’s the melanin production in my skin which by the way is a natural sun screen that protects from the sun UV rays.  That’s why it’s not common for Malays to have skin cancer. In other words, melanin is like SPF (Sun Protection Factor). The more melanin you have, the broader the spectrum of SPF you have naturally. That’s why wearing sun screen with broad spectrum (optimum SPF 35) is very important especially if your skin is fair. It tends to be more sensitive and prone to sun damage as you age).

The tips is to get a foundation or BB cream with SPF. Cosmoderm offers a good one here that caters for kids, adult and many kinds of skin types. Click . Watch the video below if you are so stubornly skeptical as I was.

Ok, back to the nose job story (did you know nose job is also called Rhinoplasty, like the rhino, rhino. Hah). My grandmas ancestors were from Acheh and Padang, Indonesia. Arwah Wan from Mama’s side was fair (the Hazeline Snow cream – her all time favourite cream + bedak sejuk probably had helped) with hidung mancung and split chin. I don’t really look like her but many of my relatives relates Bettunia’s looks with hers. Bettunia’s split chin was a lot more prominent when she was a tiny chubby baby. Aaaw. Being her favourite grandchild (I would like to think so) would’ve made Bettunia her favourite, most beautiful and sweet great grandchild. You see, she had a ‘thing’ for girls. We came from adat Pepatih which on the surface favors girls more than boys.

Ok, you can stop looking at my nose now. No need to be nosey here.

In conclusion, one can only do so much nose exercise but eventually it stays the same. Pray for the genes and forget about the nose job. Reminiscing on my sweet memories with arwah Wan, it triggered me how much I’ve missed her. Too many sweet memories. We used to be not just housemates in Senawang, but roommates in Jitra! She passed away just two months shy from my wedding…and she was the one who had been trying so hard match making me with my cousins so that “ghoto dio” orang luar tak amik. Hehe. Ok Wan. I’ll see you later and one day inshallah if we get to hang out like we used to, I will introduce you to your great grandchildren. Just make sure you don’t greet me by pinching my nose, yah. I beg you. My nose is already long as is, a milimeter bit longer would make me look like a Pinocchio.
